Help solve Georgias traffic troubles by telling your representative to vote YES on SR 845.

You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the directions at the bottom.

Issue

Georgians waste too many hours stuck in traffic. Workers in urban areas are delayed in rush hour traffic nearly 40 hours a year. Unless elected officials take action now, our congestion is expected to get worse.

Background

Senate Resolution 845 would give Georgians the opportunity to vote on a constitutional amendment to allow regions within the state to propose a 1% sales tax for priority transportation projects. Each region would then vote on a list of projects that the sales tax would fund and the timeframe for the funding.

SR 845 contains explicit language about utilizing existing tax revenue for all transportation purposes, including rail. However, the wording regarding new taxes is still ambivalent. In order to improve the language in conference committee, where we will work to ensure the funds can be used for the construction, operations and maintenance of mass transit, the resolution must first pass the House supported by a 2/3 majority.

Vote YES on SR 845 to help solve Georgias traffic troubles

Dear Representative,

We spend too much time in traffic.

Please support Senate Resolution 845 to allow regions to secure additional funding for all transportation projects, including transit.

While the bill is not perfect in its current form, we will also be contacting the conference committee to ensure the final language will clearly specify existing and future transportation funds can be used for the construction, operations and maintenance of all transportation projects, including rail.

We urge you to vote for SR 845.

Sincerely,

Your name and address here
