Tell Central Georgia EMC to Pull the Plug on Dirty Coal

You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the directions at the bottom.

Issue

This week, four of ten electric cooperatives announced they are pulling out of investing in a proposed coal-fired power plant in middle Georgia. However, your electric cooperative may still be supporting dirty coal and that's why we need your help.

Background

Dirty energy, like coal and other fossil fuels, threatens the economic and physical health of all Georgians. Coal plants pollute the air we breathe, poison the fish we eat and contribute to climate change. They also consume millions of gallons of water every day.

GreyStone Power Corporation President and CEO Gary Miller said, "Owning a coal plant is more risk than we want to take right now."

Georgia electric utilities should invest in clean, reliable energy sources available today, such as biomass from farms and forest, wind power, solar power and energy efficiency.

Help steer your electric co-op in the right direction by urging its leaders to join GreyStone Power, Jackson, Diverse and Excelsior EMCs and withdraw from Power4Georgians' risky proposal to build a coal plant.

Please Pull the Plug on Dirty Coal

Dear Mr. Fish,

I am writing to urge you to join the four other electric cooperatives that have withdrawn their support and investment from building a coal-fired power plant in middle Georgia.

Sinking more money into outdated, dirty energy sources, such as coal, does not make economic sense today. Changing environmental regulations and an unsteady financial market makes investing in coal too risky.

Clean energy is available, reliable and affordable. As a cooperative member and ratepayer, I urge you to instead invest in clean energy and energy efficiency.

Sincerely,

Your name and address here
