Help Ensure that All Georgians Get the Chance to Say No to Dirty Coal

You can take action on this alert by reading the information below and following the directions at the bottom.

Issue

Public hearings will be scheduled soon for a new 850 megawatt coal-fired power plant that has been proposed for Sandersville, Georgia.

Background

Dirty energy, including coal and other fossil fuels, threatens Georgia's economy and quality of life. Coal plants pollute the air we breathe and are major contributors to climate change. They also pollute the water we drink, fish, and swim, particularly in our blackwater streams, while consuming millions of gallons of water every day.

The proposed coal plant will increase risk affecting communities across the state, so all Georgians should have a chance to participate in the public input process. Send a message to Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) Director Carol Couch asking for public hearings that are convenient for all Georgians.

Please Hold Hearings that are Accessible to All Georgians

Dear Dr. Couch

As you know, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) is currently considering a request by Power4Georgians to operate a coal fired power plant in Sandersville. It is my understanding that a draft air quality permit is expected to be released for public comment in the near future.

This facility will impact Georgia for the next fifty years. Given the impact that this facility will have on communities around the state of Georgia, please hold hearings that are convenient for all Georgians. I request that EPD hold a minimum of three public hearings throughout the state, preferably in or near Dublin, Atlanta and Savannah.

Thank you.
